Boone Iowa Little League and Babe Ruth
One of the scrap book's belonged to Michael F Lacey II (SHHS 1961)
06/04/1943 – 01/20/2012. Thanks to Mike’s wife Karon Lacey for sharing this with us.
Mike was Joanna (Lacey) Manriquez’s youngest brother. He saved the baseball clippings from the 1955 (8 to 12 year old) Little League games. There was a comment in one clipping that said this was the first year for Boone Little League.
He also saved the 1956 and 1957 (13 to 15 year old) Babe Ruth games. There may be
some missing and may also be out of order; the clippings did not have dates.
Mike Manriquez (BHS 1969) My brother also shared his Little League scrapbook for 1963 and 1964
Leon Anderson (BHS 1962) shared his scrapbook which included the 1958 and 1959 Babe Ruth years.
Mo Kelley shared his booklet for the "1977 Boone National Little League - Fact Book and Dedicatory Program" This includes the 1977 Rosters for the Boy's and Girl's teams, a picture of Jimmy Archer, and the only pictures of Archer Field that Mo could find. There is also informaton from 1955 through 1976; Final Standings, Managers, All Star Rosters, and Tourney Highlights. The booklet ends with a SUMMARY: Boone has an overall tourney record of 34 wins and 21 losses. The Boone Little League boasted the State Runnerup team in 1957 (see picture) and again in 1976. In addition the 1970 team made it to the "Final Four".
I colorized the pictures with a new program. The newspaper pictures leave a lot to be desired, but they are still better than the black and while pictures. (Jerry Manriquez SHHS 1957)
