This is the book that was published for the Centennial of Sacred Heart School in Boone Iowa. (Click on Blue to open)
The title of the publication was "A Century of Learning Through The Sacred Heart - 1887 to 1987"
Centennial Book - Part I
Centennial Book - Part II
The pictures in the book were not the best quality for scanning, so if you can't read the names under the class pictures, look on pages 24 through 29 of the Centennial Book for the class list or see the "Searchable Alumni List" under another tab. I was able to take digital pictures of the early classes and included them under the graduation picture tab, so I will not replace the ones in the Centennial Book. The class pictures for 1943 to 1958 are also included in the School Newspapers.
The following was taken from the Centennial Book:
"This Centennial Book would not have been possible without the cooperaton, assistance, and expertise of many individuals. We would specifically like to express gratitude to Ensley Photography of Ogden for the excellent photography and reproduction work and Sunstrom-Miller Press of Boone for the first-class printing job.
Background: In 1887 four sisters were sent to Boone from the Community of Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM). The sisters arrived from their Motherhouse in Mount Carmel, Dubuque, Iowa, under the direction of Sister Mary Sorromeo Condon, the first Superior of Sacred Heart School. The school was a two story red brick building.
The first graduating class of Sacred Heart School was in 1890 and numbered four students.
A new school was built at the corner of 12th and Marshall Street and occupied in January 1952. The new school had a capacity of 300 students and contained eight classrooms, library, and a full basement with kitchen and stage.
In 1967 a new addition was added and named Ryan High School. The new building contains five classrooms, science laboratory, library, offices, kitchen and gymnasium / auditorium. Sacred Heart Ryan High closed in May of 1970, which brought an end to uninterrupted high school parochial education in Boone."
