Sacred Heart Basketball
SHHS Basketball - (1928 - 1960) - Revised 12/24/2016 to add better picture of the 1938 team, thanks to Mike Loehrer (BHS 1964
My dad Don E. Knight graduated Sacred Heart in '38. Went to and graduated from Boone JC. Then went to Drake (Was a member of the 1940 Football Team, I have the team photo) but had joined the IA National Guard (185th FA) and was in the Louisiana Maneuvers during Pearl harbor. Prior to the war rush he went to flight school in Florida & became a Navigator in the USAAF 2d Ferry Group. In Korea he was a Navigator still but with the 22d Bomb Wing (1st to arrive in defense of South Korea). He retired as an Air Force Major & is buried at the Riverside National Cemetery in California with his wife Idalynn (Lynn) (2d Marriage - My Mom). He was the last of 5 siblings to graduate from SH. 30, 31, 34, 36 & 38. The Diocese trophy "Big Basketball" in the trophy case was because of his school team!!! "They were real good"!!!
Mark Knight
The scrapbook of 1956-60 basketball and 1955-57 baseball
belonged to Michael F Lacey II (SHHS 1961)
06/04/1943 – 01/20/2012
Thanks to Mike’s wife Karon Lacey for sharing this with us.
Mike was Joanna (Lacey) Manriquez’s youngest brother.
He saved the baseball clippings from the 1955 (8 to 12 year old) Little League games.
There was a comment in one clipping that said this was the first year for Boone Little League.
He also saved the 1956 and 1957 (13 to 15 year old) Babe Ruth games. There may be
some missing and may also be out of order; the clippings did not have dates.
